Norris: 'Significant announcement' amounts to pitch for office

In what he flagged as a "significant announcement", David Norris has said he is the only genuine Independent in the race for the Áras.

He also said the current Fine Gael and Labour coalition was no different to any Government before it, in putting preservation of the system above the welfare of the people.

Senator Norris made the statement in Dublin this morning, brandishing a copy of the Keane Report into mortgage arrears, with the word "Betrayal" written across it.

Senator Norris said: "We may have had a change of government but not a change of the status quo."
