David Norris has said he still believes he will be the next President of Ireland, and said he has no intention of withdrawing fron the race.

The presidential hopeful is set to make what he describes as a "significant announcement" in the next hour, but he says he remains firmly in the race.

Senator Norris has performed poorly in recent polls. His campaign has been dogged by controversies surrounding disability payments and letters of clemency he wrote on behalf of an ex partner convicted of statutory rape.

David Norris says he is disappointed by the findings of yesterday's poll, which saw support for him fall from 14% to 7%.
