Sex offender numbers double in a year
Last year saw a doubling in the number of sex offenders in breach of agreements which require them to be in contact with Gardaí.
According to figures from the Central Statistics Office, 50 such cases were recorded in 2010, up from 24 in the previous year.
The law says registered sex offenders must tell Gardaí of their name, date of birth and home address.
The Dublin Rape Crisis Centre said any breach of the rules is a concern, but they are satisfied that Gardaí are monitoring offenders.
