New figures from the Department of Finance show a continued weakening in consumer spending with VAT returns €300m behind target at the end of September.

New figures from the Department of Finance show a continued weakening in consumer spending with VAT returns €300m behind target at the end of September.

However, the Government is meeting its tax targets overall with Exchequer returns showing the tax take is up almost €2bn year on year, mainly due to the revenue-raising measures introduced in the last Budget.
