Norris: Publishing clemency appeal letters 'unfair to victim'

Senator David Norris said today that publishing further letters of clemency written on behalf of his former partner would re-open old wounds for the victim.

The Presidential candidate also said that his lawyers have told him not to release the contents of the letters, as the original court case they refer to was held "in camera".

Senator Norris is now under pressure to either publish the legal advice, or the letters with any identifying factor's blacked out.

Senator Norris said: "What about the identity of the young lad, who's now in his mid-30s, what about his anonymity?

"In an age of the internet, is it fair, is it right, that the wound should be re-opened, this horrible thing ripped up again?

"I think, with the greatest respect, the next thing would be, you [the media] be coming in saying: 'What's blocked out, why can't we see it'?"
