Technology company to shed 75 jobs

Up to 75 jobs are to go at a Shannon-based technology support company.

Sykes, in the Shannon Industrial Estate, provides customer contact services for clients across the world in the communications, financial services and healthcare industries.

A company spokesperson has told Clare FM there will be "staff fluctuations due to changing market needs" but it is understood that the loss of a major contract with Sony is the reason for up to half of the Shannon workforce being laid off.

Sykes, which has a headquarters in Florida and has been in Clare for more than 20 years, said that no further statement will be made on the issue.
