Burton wants Govt to set up Debt Ombudsman

The Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton has said she would like to see a Debt Ombudsman to oversee the growing debt problem.

The Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton has said she would like to see a Debt Ombudsman to oversee the growing debt problem.

Ms Burton said the Government is looking at all avenues to help the 70,000 people in difficulty with their mortgage repayments.

Minister Burton said it is also important that banks are involved with their customers to whom they sold the loans.
