Major drug seizure on M9 motorway
Gardaí have seized around €1.7m worth of cannabis from a truck on the M9 Kildare, it has emerged today.
Officers from the Garda National Drugs Unit stopped the truck yesterday before transporting it back to Dublin Port, where it was searched by gardaí and Customs.
During the course of the search, Gardaí seized approximately 300 kilos of cannabis resin/herb, with an approximate value of €1.7m, subject to analysis.
One 33-year-old male was arrested and is being detained in Store St Garda station under the provisions of section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 as amended.
The arrested man is believed to be Lithuanian.
The Revenue’s Customs Service said the drugs were concealed in a consignment of tiles which had arrived in Dublin Port from Spain.
