HSE: All possible support to be given to liver-transplant patient Maedhbh
The CEO of the Health Service Executive Cathal Magee has said every effort will be made to support Meadhbh McGivern after her life-saving transplant surgery in the UK.
It has emerged the 14-year-old from Leitrim may have to fly home on a commercial flight with scores of other passengers, despite undergoing a marathon liver transplant operation last week.
Her father Joe has told the Irish Independent that he is "absolutely horrified" and that he will lobby the Health Minister to intervene.
The schoolgirl made headlines in July after a failed attempt to transport her to the UK for surgery. Last week, she was brought to London on a government jet.
After the failed effort, a HIQA report criticised the HSE as being "excessively bureaucratic".
CEO of the HSE Cathal Magee said today that "any support that can be given to support Maedhbh in her recovery and in her return home", will be given.
