Banks provide paid marital leave for employees

It has emerged that Irish banks are providing up to 10 days paid leave for their workers, who are getting married.

Bank of Ireland has revealed that it provides 10 paid marital leave days, in addition to annual leave.

AIB and Anglo Irish Bank provide five days of paid leave.

The news follows revelations yesterday that teachers are entitled to seven consecutive days paid marital leave.

Gerry Flynn, an Employment Specialist with Align Management Solutions, said that given the economic climate, it is surprising that this paid leave is still allowed.

"That's an interesting development - because I thought it would have been restricted to the public service" he said.

"But the fact that it seems to be fairly common practice with some of the larger financial institutions is a little bit of an eye-opener."
