TalkTalk to press ahead with Waterford closure

TalkTalk has said that the company's plan to close its Waterford call centre within 30 days remains unchanged.

Management at the UK phone and broadband provider held talks with the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton this morning.

The company announced last Wednesday that it will be ceasing operations at its Waterford city facility in just four weeks, with the loss of 575 jobs.

Minister Bruton - who is currently meeting local representatives ahead of a news conference this afternoon - said today's meeting was useful.

However TalkTalk spokesperson Mark Schmid says the company will be pressing ahead with its decision.

"We are now busy talking to our employees and that's our focus," he said.
