Central Bank to investigate banks' response to mortgage debt crisis

The Governor of the Central Bank has announced he is going to investigate all financial institutions to assess whether they are complying with the code on mortgage arrears.

He said he is not fully satisfied that financial institutions were facing up to the mortgage debt crisis, but confirmed some banks had written off loans, effectively engaging in debt forgiveness.
