The son of an independent councillor and another man have been arrested on suspicion of computer hacking which crashed the Fine Gael website.

The son of an independent councillor and another man have been arrested on suspicion of computer hacking which crashed the Fine Gael website.

Donncha Carroll, the son of Offaly County councillor John Carroll, was detained in a raid on his home near Birr, Co Offaly.

A second man was held in the Galway area by fraud squad officers.

Both are being questioned on suspicion of criminal damage.
