Family optimistic for four-year-old Cork girl after cancer treatment
The father of a four-year-old girl from Cork, who has undergone life saving cancer treatment in America, said that her prognosis is good.
Doctors in Ireland told Megan Malone and her family that her cancer was terminal and sent her home to see out her days.
Her parents brought her to the US for treatment and she is now cancer-free and due home in a few days.
"The experts do know from data collected in the past that this cancer is very aggressive, and has a relatively high chance in coming back," said her father John.
"In about 50% of cases, unfortunately, it does come back within the five years.
"But again we’re hoping that because of Megan's reaction to the treatment in America, we’re hoping that she'll be on the positive side of that 50%."
