Ó Muircheartaigh ends Áras speculation

Veteran sports commentator Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh has put an end to speculation that he was considering running for the presidency.

In a statement this evening, the retired broadcaster said he was honoured and humbled that so many people had offered to help him contest the election.

But the 81 year old confirmed that he does not intend to throw his hat into the ring by seeking an independent nomination.
