Third man held in connection with organised crime probe

A third man has been arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into organised crime.

The man in his late 20s was arrested this afternoon in the midlands for questioning at Naas Garda Station in Co Kildare.

A man who was arrested yesterday remains in custody, also at Naas Garda Station, while another man was last night released without charge.

The arrests follow an incident close to Ballymore Eustace on the Wicklow-Kildare border on Sunday in which armed gardaí opened fire on a car carrying suspected members of a crime gang after the driver refused to stop.
