Pensioners call for pension levy to be scrapped
The Government is coming under fresh pressure to scrap plans to introduce a pension levy.
It is hoped the 0.6% levy will stimulate the jobs market.
More than 250 pensioners who used to work at Tara Mines in Co Meath are planning a meeting later at which they will call on the Finance Minister to hold face-to-face talks with them.
Spokesperson Tom Kelly said: "No country in the world has ever got out of a depression by taking money out of the economy, and that's exactly what they're doing by taking the money off us."
