Up to 1,500 attend Roscommon hospital protest

Up to 1,500 people protested outside Roscommon County Hospital today in opposition to the recent closure of the hospital's A&E department.

The emergency medicine department was closed last month after the Health, Information and Quality Authority deemed it to be unsafe.

It was replaced by an urgent care centre which provided a temporary nightly service.

This 24-hour service however, will close on Monday and out-of-hours patients will be referred to hospitals in surrounding areas.
