Jury begins deliberations in garda assault trial

The jury in the trial of four gardaí charged in connection with an assault in Waterford has begun its deliberations.

Garda Daniel Hickey, Sgt Alan Kissane and Sgt Martha McEnery have pleaded not guilty to assault causing harm to Anthony Holness on New Street in January last year.

Garda John Burke denies intending to pervert the course of justice by turning a CCTV camera away from the incident.

The trial has lasted four weeks at Waterford Circuit Criminal Court.

The jury retired just before 4pm this afternoon.
