A Lithuanian man has appeared in court in Co Louth charged in connection with a fatal hit and run incident in Co Monaghan earlier this week.

A Lithuanian man has appeared in court in Co Louth charged in connection with a fatal hit and run incident in Co Monaghan earlier this week.

A 23-year-old cyclist was killed instantly when he was hit by a vehicle on the N2 Carrickmacross to Castleblaney Road on Tuesday night.

Zigmantas Gridzuiska, aged 37 and with an address at 30a Ardross Avenue in Carrickmacross was charged at Dundalk District Court under section 106 of the Road Traffic Act.

He was released on bail to appear in court again at the end of September.

He was also told to surrender his passport and to sign on at Carrickmacross Garda station three days a week.
