Man charged in connection with fatal hit-and-run

Gardaí in Monaghan have charged a man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident, it has emerged today.

A 23-year-old cyclist was killed instantly when his bicycle and another vehicle were in collision on the N2 Carrickmacross to Castleblaney Road on Tuesday night at around 10.15pm.

A 37-year-old man was arrested yesterday in Carrickmacross, and has been charged this morning under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

He will appear before Dundalk District Court at 11am this morning.
