Dana may consider Presidential run

Speculation has mounted today that Dana Rosemary Scallon may enter the race for the Presidency.

In May of this year, Ms Scallon stated that she would not be interested in running for the Aras but sources close to her are suggesting that she is reconsidering following Senator David Norris' withdrawal yesterday.

In 1997, Dana received the nominations of five county councils and finished third in the contest - polling over 175 thousand first preferences.

It is understood that when the Dáil resumes after the summer break she will canvas TDs and Senators in the hope of securing the 20 signatures needed for her to formally enter the race.
