SF's Doherty recalls 'inappropriate' behaviour by paedophile Ferry
Sinn Féin TD for Donegal South West Pearse Doherty has said with hindsight, he was exposed to what could be deemed as inappropriate behaviour by convicted paedophile Michael Ferry.
He was one of many local youths who socialised at the summer school in Derrybeg where Michael Ferry abused young boys.
The 55-year-old caretaker from Gweedore was jailed earlier this week for raping four young men over a 15-year period.
It emerged that Ferry had continued working at the summer school even after a sex abuse conviction in 2002.
Deputy Doherty has told Highland Radio that Ferry's behaviour around him was inappropriate, particularly when it came to karate lessons.
"He would be grabbing you and throwing you to the ground…What sparked my memory was one of the victims in the court mentioned how Mickey would throw him to the ground and start by tickling him...When I put myself back into the situation, that type of behaviour was completely inappropriate," he said.
