Man jailed for six years for abusing niece

A man has been sentenced to eight years for raping and sexually assaulting his young niece whom he said had felt like a sister to him.

The 28-year-old man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of his victim, pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court to the two charges which occurred at the girl’s grandmother’s house on a date between January 1997 and January 2000.
