Boyd Barrett: New Dáil dress code will 'alienate' young people
A new dress code for the Dáil has been branded 'pathetic' by one TD this morning.
It has been reported today that business attire will now be a requirement for those in the Irish parliament or else deputies could face suspension.
A number of first-time TD's in this Dáil have already shunned tradition by opting not to wear ties, or choosing a more dressed down look for proceedings.
Deputy Richard Boyd Barrett from the People before Profit Alliance is not impressed.
He said: "If anything, it is more likely to alienate young people who are already pretty alienated from the political system.
"I found that people feel that the new style of the Dáil reflects society a little bit more. It makes people feel that the Dáil has got something to do with them."
