Thousands to protest Roscommon Hospital cuts

Thousands of people angry about the downgrading of services at Roscommon Hospital are due to protest in Dublin today.

Yesterday the decision to close the A&E department at the hospital was condemned by opposition parties, patients' groups and union representatives.

The service is to be replaced with an urgent call centre which will operate between the hours of 8am and 8pm.

A 'doctor on call' service will operate during night hours.
