Quinn targets orders' properties to bridge shortfall in redress cash
The Education Minister Ruairí Quinn has expressed disappointment with the contributions offered by religious congregations towards compensating victims of child abuse.
The final cost of the response to residential child abuse is expected to be around €1.36bn and the Government wants half of that to be met by the 18 religious orders involved.
However, according to the Government, there is expected to be a shortfall of around €375m.
Mr Quinn said he is re-opening talks with the orders aimed at getting them to sign over schools and other property which could make up the difference.
