Heel test to screen for cystic fibrosis

The Health Service Executive has announced that the Heel Prick Test for newborn babies will now screen for cystic fibrosis.

The test, which is carried out between three and five days after the baby is born, sees a small blood sample being taken from the baby's heel which is then tested for a number of conditions.
