SIPTU demands meeting after 'despicable manner' of AA layoffs
Workers' union SIPTU has sought a meeting with the Automobile Association next week, after 12 staff members at its offices in Cork were laid off by the company yesterday.
The union claim that the workers were called to a meeting in a nearby hotel and told that their jobs had been terminated with immediate effect.
SIPTU says that by law, the AA should have entered into a 30-day consultation period with the representatives of the workforce.
The union has described the manner in which the workers were treated as "despicable".
