Adams hints at SF candidate for Presidential election

Gerry Adams has strongly hinted the party is likely to nominate one of its own to contest the Presidential election.

He said a final decision was yet to be made on the matter, and confirmed he was not putting himself forward as a candidate.

Mr Adams added that he had advised his friend - New York-based journalist Niall O'Dowd - against running, due to the difficulties of doing so as an iIndependent candidate.

He confirmed that Sinn Féin "wants to participate" in the election.
