Shatter hits back in Smithwick Tribunal row

Justice minister Alan Shatter has tonight accused Fianna Fáil of risking public confidence in the Smithwick Tribunal by cynically misrepresenting his actions.

In a series of letters over the past few weeks, Judge Peter Smithwick told Minister Shatter that his controversial and unexpected declaration of a deadline on the hearings threatened the entire investigation.
