A 29-year old man charged with two offences relating to the theft of money from a pensioner in Cork city on Sunday, has appeared in court.

A 29-year old man charged with two offences relating to the theft of money from a pensioner in Cork city on Sunday, has appeared in court.

Kenneth Lyons of Willison Meadows, Tower, Blarney is charged with the theft of €28,000 from Mathew Cahill at St Mary's Terrace, Wolfe Tone Street, on June 26.

He is also charged with impersonating a member of An Garda Síochána on the same occasion.

The court heard today that he made no reply when charged with the offences.

Gardaí objected to bail and he was remanded in custody to appear again at Cork District Court next Thursday.
