Cork Gardaí hunt thief who posed as a Garda

Gardaí in Cork are appealing for information after a man posed as a Garda and stole a substantial amount of cash from a pensioner in the city this morning.

The man called to the home of the pensioner at Sun Valley Drive on the northside of the city and claimed to be a Garda from Gurranabraher Garda Station.

He asked the man had he any money as he needed to mark it in the event of it being stolen and the pensioner produced a substantial sum of cash which the man then stole.

The thief is described as being five foot eight inches in height and of stocky build.

He was wearing jeans and a green anorak and made his getaway in a waiting car driven by an accomplice.
