Three people have been remanded in custody in connection with assaulting three gardaí in Cork city yesterday evening.

A violent disturbance broke out in the Knocknaheeny area at around 7pmk and an officer was rushed to hospital after he was kicked in the face.

Nineteen-year old Alan Blake from Hollyville, Hollyhill and his 40-year old father Brian Blake of the same address are charged with six offences relating to the incident.

Among the charges is assaulting three gardaí - Donal Kiely, Kieran Barrett and Peter Desmond - at Harbour View Road, Knocknaheeny.

They are also charged with threatening and abusive behaviour, violent disorder, resisting gardaí and refusing to leave the scene.

37-year old Mary Wise, of no fixed abode but with relatives living in the Knocknaheeny area, is charged with refusing to leave the scene and resisting garda Stephen Ahern.

All three were refused bail and were remanded in custody until next Tuesday.

Inspector Gary McPolin told the court that yesterday's incident related to a serious stabbing on Sunday.

He said the violence broke out a short distance from where a Joint Policing Committee meeting was about to get underway and officers from that meeting were alerted to the incident.
