Fine Gael TD announces support for Cox

Dun Laoghaire TD Mary Mitchell O'Connor, is throwing her support behind Pat Cox for the Fine Gael presidential nomination.

The Fine Gael representative said that she is supporting Pat Cox because he will maintain the very high standards expected of an Irish President.

Deputy O'Connor also says his reputation in Europe would bring him instant respect in the role.

Mr Cox will face competition from Mairead McGuinness, Gay Mitchell and possibly Avril Doyle in his bid to win the Fine Gael nomination.
