Cox applies for FG membership as O'Dowd indicates presidential ambition

The former President of the European Parliament Pat Cox has applied for membership of Fine Gael.

It is believed Mr Cox intends to seek the party's nomination to run for President.

Meanwhile the New York-based journalist Niall O'Dowd has confirmed that he is actively seeking support to enter the presidential race.

He said he would confirm his intention to run if he gets the support he needs.
