Man due in court in connection with Monaghan assault

A man is due to appear in Cavan District Court this evening in connection with a vicious assault in Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan, last night.

The man, in his late teens, has been charged in relation to the incident at Lisdoonan, in Carrickmacross at around 5am yesterday morning.

Gardaí in Carrickmacross named the victim of the assault as Gavin O'Connor, Ballynaclose, Kilmainhamwood, on the Cavan, Meath border.

The man was arrested yesterday and is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
