The Director of Corporate Enforcement has said the time it is taking to complete the Anglo Irish Bank investigation reflects the scope and complexity of the inquiry.

The Director of Corporate Enforcement has said the time it is taking to complete the Anglo Irish Bank investigation reflects the scope and complexity of the inquiry.

However Paul Appleby, who was speaking at the launch of his office's annual report for 2010 this morning, said the probe was proceeding as quickly as possible.

He said the July deadline set down by the High Court to conclude the investigation will very likely need to be extended and added that, while he "fully appreciates" the public frustration at the length of time it is taking, "substantial and tangible progress has been made".
