Drivers urged to take extra care

Drivers were urged to take extra care over the June bank holiday weekend as figures show one third of road deaths happen during the summer.

Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan appealed for road users to take personal responsibility as statistics revealed half of fatal road crashes happen between 4pm on a Friday and 6am on a Monday.
