Leitrim man charged with murder of pensioner

An 18-year-old Leitrim man has been charged with the murder of pensioner Johnny Golden.

The 73-year-old died in hospital last October, four weeks after being attacked at his home in Nedd, Doogary in Killeshandra, Co Cavan.

Brendan McGovern with an address at Kilahurk, Carrigallen, Co Leitrim, appeared at a special sitting of Ballyconnel District Court this morning.

He was remanded in custody and will appear before Virginia District Court on Thursday.
