Gardaí: No clear motive for west Dublin shooting

Gardaí say they have no clear motive for the gangland killing of a 20-year-old man in west Dublin last night.

Dean Johnson was shot a number of times while he sat in the back of a friend's car on Moorefield Avenue in Neilstown at around 9pm last night.

Gardaí have described the killing of the young man as a "terrible act".

One shocked neighbour in Neilstown said: "There's a child without a father and a mother without a son

Dean Johnson was sitting in the back of a friends car when he was shot at least four times in the head and chest.

The 20-year-old father of one was rushed to Tallaght hospital but died a short time later.

Although known to gardaí, Johnson was not believed to be involved in any major criminal activity.

They say they have no clear motive but are following a number of lines of inquiry.

The attacker is described as a man in his 20s of stocky build wearing a grey hoody and grey tracksuit bottoms.

Detective Superintendent Walter O'Sullivan appealed for information.
