Jury to retire in Rosanna Davison libel trial

The jury is due to retire today in a libel action taken by former Miss World Rosanna Davison against Ryanair.

The model wants damages after comments she made about the airline's 2009 charity calendar were said to be elitist and bordering on racism in a Ryanair press release.

The 27-year-old says the press release - which was issued on the company's website in November 2008 - shocked and angered her and she claims it damages her good name by saying she was a racist.

In court, Ryanair denied the press release implies Rosanna Davison is racist and said it was issued so that her remarks - about the lack of Irish girls in the calender - would not affect sales of their charity calendar.

The jury is to retire today after hearing closing speeches from barristers for both sides.
