Customs seize 4.1 million cigarettes at Dublin Port

Customs officers today seized 4.1 million cigarettes which had arrived through Dublin Port from China via Holland.

Customs officers today seized 4.1 million cigarettes which had arrived through Dublin Port from China via Holland.

The contraband cigarettes, 'Raquel' and 'Gold Classic' brands which were described on the manifest as 'pharmaceuticals', have an estimated retail value of €2m and a potential loss to the exchequer of €1.8m.

A male in his 30s from the North was arrested, charged and remanded in custody.

A truck was also seized during the operation.

Investigations are ongoing.
