Second Offaly village lays claim to Obama

A second Irish village has discovered a parish register with records of the ancestors of Barack Obama.

Situated only a few miles from Moneygall, Co Offaly, the parish of Shinrone is also making claims on the US President.

A book in the village contains details of more than 40 of Mr Obama's ancestors, the Kearneys.

Although Shinrone is not on Mr Obama's itinerary for his May 23 visit, a group of children there have written to the White House inviting the US president to visit their national school.

Principal of Shinrone national school Joe Cleary told i105107 that his pupils had also extended personal invites to Mr Obama's two daughters Malia and Sasha to visit.
