Survey: Spend on holy communions increases
A survey has revealed that the average amount of money parents spend on their child's first holy communion has risen.
The average parent will shell out €600 at the ceremony which compares to €530 last year, according to a survey by the EBS.
The study, which examined Irish adults' attitudes towards spending on communions, shows more than 90% feel giving a child €50 or less is appropriate.
Up to 60,000 children around the country will make their first holy communion in the coming weeks and 67% are expected to save most or all of the cash they receive and spend a small portion.
