Woman charged with running Sligo brothel
A 35-year-old Nigerian woman has appeared in court charged with running a brothel in Sligo.
Charity Ajayoba of no fixed abode has been remanded in custody until next Wednesday.
Ms Ajayoba is accused of organising, directing and running a brothel at Rathbraughan Park, Sligo on March 22, 2007.
In court, Detective Sergeant Frank McGrath of the Human Trafficking Investigation Unit gave evidence of her arrest on the North Circular Road in Dublin yesterday evening.
He said when charged at the Bridewell Garda Station the 35-year-old replied: "I do not understand what you're talking about", but responded "I understand" when the charge was read over to her.
There was no bail application and legal aid is yet to be decided for the failed asylum seeker.
The detective gave evidence that a substantial sum of money had come through Ms Ajayoba's bank account which had formed part of the investigation, but she no longer has access to it.
Judge Denis McLaughlin has remanded her in custody to appear in court next Wednesday.
