Two children hospitalised following Mayo accident

Two female children have been taken to hospital in Co. Mayo after they were hit by a car.

The two little girls, aged 6 and 10, were crossing the road in Mulranny village at around 11.10am when the accident occurred.

Both were rushed to Mayo General Hospital, where one of the girls is said to be in a critical condition.

The other child's injuries are not said to be as serious.

Gardaí have closed the road this afternoon while they carry out a forensic examination of the scene.

Diversions are in place and motorists are advised to avoid the area and take an alternative route if possible.
