The Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore has moved to reassure the public that the Government will not engage in a fire-sale of State assets after economist Colm McCarthy's recommendations yesterday.

Mr McCarthy said the State should sell €5bn worth of assets to raise money, but also cautioned against a quick sale.
