Young man arrested in connection with bookmakers raid
A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an armed raid at a bookmakers in Galway city.
At 4pm yesterday afternoon a lone raider, armed with a sawn-off shotgun, entered the betting shop at the Briarhill Shopping Centre and demanded money.
He escaped with an undisclosed sum of cash.
Nobody was hurt during the robbery.
In a follow-up operation nearby at Ballybrit Heights, investigating officers recovered cash, a firearm and a green BMW which they believe was used during the hold-up.
Gardaí have arrested a 21-year old-man who is now being held at Mill Street Garda Station under Section 30 of Offences against the State Act.
