Taoiseach: State-assets report does not recommend 'fire-sale'

The Taoiseach has confirmed a report on the disposal of State assets does not recommend a "fire-sale" of semi-state Companies such as the ESB and Bord Gais.

Economist Colm McCarthy's report will be published this afternoon and will detail his recommendation that the Government could sell-off up to €5bn worth of assets.

The Programme for Government commits to the disposal of just €2bn worth of non-core state assets.

Enda Kenny said the McCarthy report will form part of the debate on the issue.
